Alphabets & Travelers

I've been away, but now I'm back! Working on this and that moving here and there trying to embrace change. I think that sums it up, still no great excuse for neglecting my blog. I don't forget to water my plants, I'll try harder not forgetting to nourish my blog.

So, what's new? Well, I have an agent now, who is Amazing! You can see my artist profile & learn a more about the agency here: writershouseart.com
The art above was created for a promotional postcard that will hopefully attract some awesome book illustration work. I hope today was a good day for whoever is reading.

100

My Gaga ( great grand mother ) turned 100 this month. How amazing is that! It's just unfathomable. So to help me grasp what it could mean to reach 100, I created this timeline with a few major historic events that Gaga lived through. Bertha Vaughn Brown was born Dec 24, 1910 in Greensboro Kentucky. She has lived during the times of: The sinking of the Titanic, End of WW1, Womens Liberation Movement, Stock Exchange Crash & the Great Depression.
She was around when a dozen eggs cost 12 cents, the start of WW2, the day Nuclear weaponry was dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. She was there during the Civil Rights Movement, 1st man on the moon, the end of the Vietnam War, Here During 9/11 and around to see America elect it's 1st African American President.

Holiday Gift

As a holiday gift I thought it might be nice to give friends and family hand crafted bath salts. I mean, it's pretty busy time of the year, people running around shopping, work usually gets more hectic, traveling arrangements... Just made sense to share something to help folks chill. It was also an opportunity for me to sharpen up my label making and Packaging skills. If your are into bath salts & body pampering stuff I highly recommend trying making it yourself, it's crazy easy!

Fresh Produce

The Politician: Acrylic 9 x 12

Hi, I've been painting, here are a few pieces I've recently created for an up coming group exhibition and sale. It's been challenging but also motivating to force myself to bust out new stuff. What if people don't like it? Hey! you know better than that, don't worry what others think, create something that means something to you, and maybe some might feel it too. -Dialog from Christian Robinson's head.

American Solders: Acrylic 8 x 20

It would seem the U.S. Army is becoming more inclusive and more accurately portraying the diverse country it protects. Recently U.S. citizens of the Sikh religion were permitted to serve while still maintaining their articles of faith. DADT is currently still being enforced but according to national polls majorities of American voters think gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military and that the "don't ask, don't tell" policy constitutes discrimination.

Sad Prince: Acrylic 12 x 12

Cargo Ship: Acrylic 8 x 8

December 3, 2010 - January 8, 2011 my art will be apart of a group Exhibition and sale: Fresh Produce, at Anno Domini Gallery in San Jose CA. Click here:http://www.galleryad.com/for more info about show.

HOME

Oh, hi again :O) This is a piece I made for an art auction that's goal is to raise money to build homes for children in Ghana. The theme I was encouraged to work in was HOME. I have to admit I spent a lot of time thinking about the meaning of home. I think home is something we carry with us, it isn't any place necessarily. I find home in people and relationships, it's also like a feeling of peace and belonging.

Ok, so I decided to create this scene of me as a child and my grandmother riding a bus. I grew up in Los Angeles where my older brother and I were raised by our Grandmother. Nana ( my grandma ) didn't drive, I remember spending a lot of time on the bus growing up. i don't find comfort in riding a bus, but in this case being with my grandmother who was and has always been there for me. Thank you Nana.
